SIETTLING FOR THE RIGHT FALL
PROTECTION
The hierarchy of fall protection
"There is a suitable surface I can work from, but there is an unprotected edge close to where I would be working" - Scaffold erector
Choose work restraint.
If it is necessary to work at a height, try to make sure that a suitable working surface is available, which prevents the individual from being exposed to a situation where a fall inevitable (use safe working platforms or restraint equipment)
"The surface I need to work from might collapse. I need additional support to stabilize myself or move around" - Tower climber
Choose work positioning
If a suitable surface is not available, you may need to consider using personal fall protection equipment for additional support and positioning.
"There is an unprotected edge close to where I would be working, and it is not possible to use restraint or positioning equipment" - Maintenance worker
Choose fall arrest
If it is not possible to completely prevent people from being exposed to the risk of a fall, use the fall arrest equipment. If fall arrest is the chosen method, select the equipment, which will minimize the distance and consequence of a fall and ensure that rescue equipment is available.
Above all, the working method should only be chosen after considering the risks involved. |
